3-12-2017: On an 88,000 mile 2015 Mazda 6 2.2 Skyactiv D, report of an auxillary drive belt tensioner failing costing £432. Then the heater stopped working. Driver took it to the Mazda dealer who said the cylinder head gasket had failed and also the radiator needs replacing, and the cost is £2,585.11. Driver complained bitterly to the dealer, Mitchell Mazda in Ellesmere Port who contacted Mazda and eventually got 80% off the labour cost. The final bill was £611.

31-1-2018: Report of Mazda 6 2.2 Skyactiv diesel engine head gasket failing at 104,000 miles. Needed a new engine and it was replaced under warranty. 15,000 miles later, the head gasket of the new engine failed. This indicates that there must have been a fault in the cooling system elsewhere than the engine that caused both engines to lose coolant.

Mazda Motor Taiwan yesterday announced that it would begin recalling Mazda CX-5 and Mazda 6 Skyactive vehicles on May 6 after 36 owners complained of coolant leaks from auxiliary radiators.
It is the company’s second recall of the two models, following a recall for the same problem in early November last year.
“As such, the ministry on Monday last week officially notified Mazda that it should recall the two models again, to which the company replied on Tuesday last week that it is to begin recalling the vehicles on May 6,” Lee said.
The company also promised to respond to other requests by the owners, including providing them with lifetime warranties, allowing them to return the vehicles to dealers and asking dealers to buy back the vehicles.
Mazda said on its Web site that it is recalling some diesel-powered vehicles that were found to leak coolant from auxiliary radiators during continuous low-speed, uphill operation in high gears.
That situation triggers an engine protection program to temporarily inhibit engines from generating power, which reduces the vehicle’s operational speed to enhance safety, it said.
Mazda administered a pressure increase test on coolant passages when it tried to address the problem in last year’s recall, but the method has proved ineffective, as it failed to detect that higher engine temperatures degraded the seal of the cylinder head gasket, which has been identified as the source of the coolant leaks, Lee said.

Same here. 2014 CX5. Diagnosed as Cylinder head failure. I'm stuck in France on a tour with caravan. Mazda UK have washed their hands of this known issue. Had to get car repatriated at my cost to the UK (LV breakdown would not repatriate as I have an open Eurotunnel ticket) Now have a bill of £6000 for a reconditioned engine + Injectors. Believe it is to do with oil dilution and overheating because of this. Of course the warning system on the CX5 doesn't warn you until it's too late. Poor design and Mazda know it. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of us in the same boat. Never buying Mazda again!
Hi we are having exactly the same problem, except our engine failed while in France. Mazda France said new cylinder head but I felt that wasn't addressing the issue of why it happened in the 1st place. Ours is a 2014 CX5 Skyactive 2.2D like you we paid £11,000 to an independent dealer and have ended up paying £8000 in total for a completely rebuilt engine by an independent garage. Mazda have washed their hands and deny issues with this engine when there are thousands of worldwide complaints with exactly the same symptoms.

I have asked the garage for further info on how this has happened but essentially they said they will never know, but they have not explained how they found the issue.
However Mazda have responded as below, and offered a contribution to the costs.
We note the request for information as to why cars have not been recalled in the UK for this issue when other markets have issued recall for what is assumed to be the same issue. We are not able to comment on other market recalls as other global markets will have different recalls owing to the countries legislation, circumstances and legal requirements. Some of their models are built in different production plants. Parts are often from a different source than those built in Japan for the European market and their engines can be different/ larger capacity with different components.

Uglavnem moj serviser, ki mu popounoma zaupam ze dolga leta ne najde problema..pregledal je vse, nalil neko barvo v antifriz, da bi vidu kje pusca, vodno pumpo pregledou,cevi,glavo...

Ali ima ta mazda se webasto? Velikokrat se pozablja pregledati ta del ker je izven motorja. Samo ne vem do katerega leta so ga imele.

Naslednja stvar ki bi jo preveril pa je hladilnik. Ce pusca tam lahko med voznjo vse izpari / spiha

In zna vakum test lagat ce je termostat zaprt

Ta efekt zal poznam dobro, sem omenil da smo delali za dolocene projekte visoko nad nebom.... 

 

Gre za erozijo stekla zaradi zunanjih dejavnikov.

 

- kisline in molekule v vodi in zraku

- temp razlike (iz tople garaze na hladno, segrevanje zmrznjenega stekla, aditovi za steklo, steklo na soncu potem klima....

- najvecji dejavnik pa sta dez in zrak in njegove sestavine, predvsem alkalne soli, največ fosfati. Delujejo agresivno na steklo v suhem in mokrem

 

Seveda k temu pripomore neprimerna zmes stekla in kaljenje na prenizki temperaturi! Vsa stekla so izpostavljena zunanjim vplivom a odporno bo le tisto primerne zmesi in kalitve. Molekule stekla niso povezane kot bi morale in zacnejo izgubljati vezi, steklo se

Mikroskopsko krusi oz pride do zraka v njem

 

Steklo je na limitu loma (ob naslednjih vecjih obremenitvah)

 

Rezime:.lahko je posledica sparanja, slabih postopkov, slabih materialov, kot tudi zrtev prirejanja stekla za vecjo oceno varnosti pescev.
