Hi,

Sorry my slovenian is not too great. I understand most of it but have trouble writing it.

I have questions.

I am thinking with my family to move to slovenia from Australia. We are slovenian (potni list) citizens also. (we have family in prlekija)

I have 2 cars that i wish to take with me but unsure if i can register or drive these cars in slovenia.

Both are right hand drive, but one is build in 1972 RX3 and the other in 1976(oldtimer)

Because of the age can i drive these in slovenia without changing to left hand drive?

Also my cars produce some power (over 415hp at the wheels). Do i need to reduce to power as they are on low tune now for our crap 95 fuel. They are registered in Australia at the moment and pass our road safety laws (tehnicni pregled)

Can someone please give me advise as i REALLY want to bring these cars with me when we move to slovenia. I don't want to sell them or leave them here.

Any help would be greatful.

Thanks

We already have some RHD cars in Slovenia (Nissan Sky R34 GTT, Supras, RX-7) Supras are registered in UK, Sky and RX-7 in Slovenia. About RHD and turbos is no problem, but with RX-3 and RX-5 as i know they where never sold here. Maybe could be posible as oldtimers.

Please don't leave them in Australia :bravo: I would love to see them in persone :bravo:

post-5853-1270728978_thumb.jpgThanks,

I do intend to bring them with me (hopefully at least one of them rx3 preferably) if i can register at least one there. I won't drive them in winter of course but would love to drive them in summer and maybe take the rx3 to germany on the autobahn to see what she can do (hopefully surprise a few cars there or piss them off) It does use alot of petrol but sometimes it worth it (normal driving 20ltr/100km - Heavy driving don't ask)

As you said that the Rx3 was not sold there so maybe there is a chance under oldtimer? If i can't bring the rx5 that is fine as i don't really care about it as much.

Another question is that if you have E85 fuel there (15%bensin and 85% ethanol) Last time i was there i did not see it. With this fuel i can run more than 1 bar which should be nice.

Here is one of the engines.. The engine in the avatar is my brothers. Its a 26b.We build rotary engines as a hobby as we have an engineering business.

Thanks

Also,

I think that you pay for insurance on KM (power) and registration on cc's? Is this right? I am not sure if they classify a 13b as a 1.3ltr or 2.6ltr there? Does anyone with rx7 know?

I know that you have tehnicni pregled every 6 months for older cars.. can i just get 6 months a year of registration or even club registration?

Also should i put a really dead motor in it to save on insurance? i was even thinking of taking heaps of timing out of the engine and make it run shit so that it will only make around 200hp? Is this wise?

Sorry about all the questions, but i am serious about bringing at least one car there (rx3) as its like another child to me.. (just joking but close)

Thanks

Hi, thing's aren't that complicated here as far as oldtimers are concerned. Since both of your cars are older than 25 years they are concidered as oldtimers and the conditions for registration in Slovenia arent that tough. But i do advise that you say nothing about any modifications that you made (the oficials might give you trouble) as nobody has any idea how stock rx3, rx5 engine looks :P :ne vem:

oh, and road tax and insurance will be practicaly free as they are oldtimers ;) ( 90% off :bravo: )

Thanks very much. 90% sounds good..

So keep my mouth shut when i get there...:)

I can put it back to standard in a day (with tools and parts) so its no big concern there as i will put them on a shipping container and fill it with spare parts. I don't think they would be upset with larger brakes and upgraded suspension ? (these old cars are dangerous with the brakes that they had in the 70's)

Well it looks good so far with tax and registration..

With insurance... can you nominate a value, as a rx3 here in good condition is valued at 35k.

Even though the car will not leave my sight for long, its good to know if some .............(fill in the dots) decides to steal it.

Thanks

There is absolutelly no constraint on RHD or horsepower limit on the cars by the law. IT is simple, more HP, more you pay for insurance in Slovenia.

Regarding registration, if you will stay here with permanent address, then you cannot use it as foreigner (like having a job here temporarelly), so you will need to do import in fact, I don't have exact info but I think it goes like this:

- tehni?ni pregled AND slovenian homologation issued by contracting party in SLO

- paying import AND TAX (This can't be avoid)

- then you can insure and register te car

But the trick is in homologation, if car is regular factory one, no sweat, but if it is tuned or somehow changed it can be a problem, as each change on the car needs to be homologated, if you done this already down under, can be easier probably

Neverteless there are also different options, like temporary registration, registration as foreigner etc etc etc

I think the best address is that your family contacts AMZS or registration office on 'Ma?kova' in Ljubljana or LPP in Ljubljana - they will have all the infos.

Second option is to contact someone that sells used cars anywhere in Slovenia, that can do the job for you!!!

Thanks.

Will they dyno the car OR will they go off the original power?

I will be able to put the car back to standard but would prefer not too.

I will talk to my cousin and get him to call them for me.

Thanks for all your help.

I hate it here as we have speed camera's everywhere now (nice revenue for austalia) and limit is only 100. Makes no sense but we have large capacity engines and such a small speed limit.. On my 8klm trip to work i would say there is no less than 12 speed camera's. Lovely isn't it. Basically now every set of lights has a fixed speed camera here..

Just keep that in mind if anyone comes to australia..

As stated in traffic licence, noone is Dynoing the car for technical inspection (that's for police :jupiii: )

But they will measure Co2...which in Europe is a bit strict

Well i know that these old rotaries were not too efficient, so i am not sure about Co2. I am hoping to run e85 there (if available) which will reduce Co2 considerably.

Now the car is fuel injected so i am guessing it is running cleaner than when it was new..

I am sure there will be some exceptions for oldtimers due to being old technology.

Sorry No...

By e85 i mean (15% bensin and 85% ethanol) If there is a 100 ethanol even better... as i will be able to run over 1.5bar then and make 500-600hp at the wheels on a safe tune... (30 degree plus days)

But its too dangerous now with 400 odd so i will probably keep it at that and occasionly wind up the boost depending on how many lanes on the autocesta... It now will move into 2 or 3 lanes when pedal is down..

Napisano

E85 you mean that is mix of ethanol and gas, her we have only 100%gas no ethanol in it

95, 98 and 100 octane

Thanks.

I remember that, but just thought that you may have the e85 now. We are just starting to introduce it here and is limited to only a few petrol stations in each state.

Glad to see the LPG is taking off there too.. A lot of friends of mine are making very good power with LPG as it has a higher Octane than normal fuel and burns cooler. Have a friend thats making 560kw at the wheels in his car (approx 750hp) and drives it everyday.

Awsome...It would be nice to see some pic of your cars :danzoman:

P.S. LPG is IN!

Keep in mind that if you register your car as old-timer (> 25yrs) first you must be an owner of another younger car. Otherwise the registration for your beast is 1000+ ? .

There is no problem if you register it for some months (i.e. may-sep).

Here you can calculate your expense:

cena registracije

As far as I know the demand is that a vehicle is completely original: colour, engine, etc. If modificated it can not be registered as an old-timer anymore.
